Drains Drain
lines can be costly and annoying if not taken care of. What's
that you say? I can actually take care or maintain my drain line?
Yes.
There are a few things that can go wrong with your house drain lines.
Clogging is the most common drain problem. There are many items that should not go into the drain system of your house. The most commonly abused is grease and food products. The most common service call for drain cleaners are the kitchen sink drains. Never put grease or meat products down the drain. You can't avoid some grease going down the drain because you wash pots and pans in the sink. The grease won't flow out with the water. Grease sticks to the sides of the pipe allowing other debris to collect and build a layer closing off the drain pipe (like cholesterol in our arteries). Garbage disposals are not good for our drains either. Check out my Garbage Disposal page. There is a product, 100% mother nature's ingredients, 100% safe, called BIO-CLEAN. Bio-Clean is enzymes and bacteria that work together to rid your pipes of grease and scum. Check out my Bio-Clean page. The next abused substance are sanitary products. Even though the package says it's all right to flush, don't believe it. I'm still pulling these products out of toilets. Roots are the most common main sewer clog, mainly in older clay tile pipes. The clay pipes must go. Technology has advanced so much since the day of the clay pipes. I don't think that when the plumbers installed these pipes they thought civilization would be here in the 21st century. It's time to upgrade to plastic. If you're having your drain augured at least once every 3 years, it's worth the money to have a camera run through your main line and see if it's time to replace. There is a product called RootX that destroys roots. One application a year guarantees your drain won't back up because of roots. Rotting. Some rotting of pipes occurs naturally over an extended period of time, especially the older metal drain pipes. Using chemicals such as the liquid drain uncloggers in a bottle melts through older pipes where the walls of the pipe are already thin. Plumbers don't like the chemicals because a lot of times they don't work and we end up having to run a cable or replacing the pipe anyway, then the caustic chemical gets on us or just the fumes irritates our eyes. Slope. Whether by bad installation or foundation shifting. If your pipe is not continuously sloping downward until it gets into the city sewer line, scum will build up and create another clog. Call your plumber and plan on him/her being in your house for at least a couple of hours. Trouble Shooting
When ever we flush any of our toilets, water comes up our floor drain. Whether the water is coming out of your floor drain (basements) or up into your tub/shower (houses without basements), it usually means your main sewer line, from your house out the the city sewer pipe, is partially clogged. It's time to auger out your sewer line. |
