RootX ![]() First and Foremost: If you sewer is already backing up, RootX is not your answer. It takes up to 2 months
before the roots start breaking down. RootX is a maintenance
product not an overnight fixer. You must get your sewer line augered
first. Wait 6 to 8 weeks then start the application.
RootX is the original, non-metam sodium foaming root control in an easy-to-apply powdered formulation. It foams on contact with water to kill roots and inhibit regrowth. RootX is accepted in all 50 states by the EPA for use in sewer and storm lines. A 2 lb. jar takes care of approximately 50 ft. of 4-inch pipe, 4 lb's treats up to100 ft of a 4" drain line, 75 ft. of a 6" drain line. Just one treatment per year is all that is needed. To use: (see step by step with pictures below) Add entire contents of 2-pound jar into a pail or bucket and mix the two components that were in the jar thoroughly without water, throw away the paper that is in the jar. Then either dump the RootX mixture into the toilet bowl slowly, while flushing, or a sewer cleanout if available. Make sure that when you are pouring the chemical into the application site you do not create a splash which could come in contact with and burn the user's eyes. When applying into the toilet make sure the flush has already started going down the drain. This will help avoid the foam overflowing the bowl. When applying into a sewer cleanout make sure to follow the application with 5 gallons of water. Allow at least 6 hours before using water after application. If your using two containers through the toilet, flush one jar. Then start again with a new flush for the second jar. Best Time to apply RootX: The best time is when you can sleep or leave the house for 7 hours. Let the foam just sit in your pipes. If you use any plumbing at all, the water going down the drain will dissolve and carry away the foam. If you just got your drain line augered you'll need to apply it immediately or at least within one hour. Otherwise wait 8 weeks before applying RootX. Reason being, when the roots are cut, they start to develop a sap barrier around themselves, this takes about one hour. After the sap barrier is in place the RootX won't be able to penetrate the barrier. After 8 weeks the barrier breaks down and RootX can then get into the roots. If using RootX and Bio-Clean together. Use RootX first then start the Bio-Clean treatments 2 weeks later. Back to top For actual instruction that come on the RootX jar (and real world expectations) Click Here. Plan on applying RootX when it has time to dwell in you pipe for at least 7 hours (no water going down drains). At night before bed. In the morning before work (nobody else is home). What to do: Have ready a bucket, RootX and a crusher/mixer . When
you open the jar, pour the complete contents into a small bucket.
In most cases you'll have the tan powder and a light brown or
white powder (usually clumped up) and a piece of tissue .
Remove the tissue, The tissue is a complete joke I always find it
crumbled up and not separating the two chemicals as the instructions on
the jar say. Nevertheless the product still works as it should. Breakup
all clumps into powder form. Mix the ingredients
thoroughly then pour down your toilet while the water is
swirling and draining or pour down your main drain
cleanout DRY, should you be lucky enough to have one. Each 2 lb
container gets it's own toilet flush (two containers = two flushes).Whoops! The foam overflowed the toilet. Leave the foam alone on the carpet. Let it dry then vacuum. Hard floors can be cleaned up immediately with water. Wear gloves. in a sewer pipe
