Dishwasher:  Turn your kitchen faucet hot water on.  Wait until full hot is coming out of the faucet.  Then start your dishwasher.   Why?  Most dishwashers in America are tapped into the same line that your faucet hot water comes from.  If you start your dishwasher without bringing hot water up to your faucet, you'll be putting cold water into the dishwasher for several seconds before the hot comes in.
