Toilets / Closets All
I can say about toilets is nothing beats a Kohler. Today, by
code, you can only buy a 1.6 gallon flush toilet. I've worked
with a couple of plumbing service companies in Denver. One
company says their toilet is the best, made by Western Pottery.
This is a good toilet it but it does not out perform a Kohler. You can
only buy it through a contractor so you know the mark-up is great.
Another company sold only TOTO. This toilet is nothing to brag about. I've had many clog and repair calls on this brand. Some parts are special and can only be bought through the TOTO company. In fact I got this company to stop selling the TOTO brand and go to.... Kohler is the one and only toilet for me. I prefer the basic 2 piece Wellworth model. The tank and bowl are sold separately. You should be able to pick up both for about $100.00. Any other locally bought toilet doesn't perform anything like a Kohler. If you buy an American Standard, Briggs, Crane (the ultimate worst) or uncommon brand name at a bargain price, you should buy a plunger too and keep it next to the toilet. Kohler's trap way, where our waste goes, is glazed all the way through making for a nice slick surface and it has a 2" path way. Your cheaper toilets have a 1 1/2" trap way and as soon as you can't see inside of it, it's no longer glazed. It has the same rough surface as the bottom side of the tank lid. This makes it hard for our stools to make the sharp turns that it has to make. My old 3.5 gallon toilet finally self cracked so I had to replace it. I installed a Kohler and was amazed with the performance. It took away large stools with no problem. My 3 gallon did too. It took away "floaters" like diarrhea with no problems. My 3 gallon took a few flush's. Basically the Kohler does a better job with half the water consumption. It's not perfect. The 2 years that I've had it I have had to use the plunger once. Compare that with any other toilet. Finally there are "power flush" toilets. It sounds like one of those commercial airport toilets when you flush. Use it in the middle of the night and the family will know about it. They do work good but.. Parts are not commonly found at your local home store. One piece toilets are nice looking. Replacement parts are expensive. You or your plumber will break their back moving it. No, I do not have stock in the Kohler company. Just totally impressed. |
