Water Alarm
Two main causes of home damage are FIRE and WATER DAMAGE. Fire prevention is covered by a smoke alarm. This water detector works in the same manner as a smoke alarm. Make sure you have a good battery installed, just like a smoke alarm, and set the water detector next to prime leak areas. The Detector Detects small amounts of moister before damage can occur, no standing water is required. Outer shell is made of durable ABS plastic. Completely electronic. No moving parts to fail or wear out. Sensors are stainless steel. They will not corrode or stain. When water is detected an alarm will sound at 110 db for up to 72 hours. The detector chirps when the battery is getting low (about once a year) A few unfortunate statistics
Your home is 85% more likely to be damaged by water than by fire.According to the Insurance Information Institute, claims from water damage reach more than $4Billion in the U.S. on an annual basis. The average loss per home is nearly $3000. The leading causes of water damage are leaky appliances, overflowing toilets, baths and sinks, old or frozen pipes, roots in pipes, sump pump malfunctions, and leaky roofs. Washing machine hose failures alone account for more than $150 million in annual damage. 5 million water heaters leak or burst every year. Every year more than 250,000 families have their homes ruined and their lives overturned by severe water damage and the subsequent repairs. Prime leak areas
Dishwasher - If you have a
tile floor, the tile will keep the water from a leaking dishwasher from
coming out into the kitchen. Most dishwashers are set on the sub floor,
your tile creates a damn if a water leak occours. You won't notice you
have a leak until you see water dripping from the ceiling from the
lower level. If you have a crawl space below your kitchen you may never
notice the leak until the kitchen floor is spongy. At this time mold is
starting to make a presence.Washing machine - Washing machines can leak but more common are the washing machine hoses. We recommend using stainless steel braided hoses. Water heater - A time will come when your water heater will start leaking. They are steel tanks that do eventually give way to rust. Average lifetime of a water heater tank is about 10 years. Floor drain - Floor drains, in the basement, don't leak but if your sewer starts to backup, the floor drain is the first place the backup will show itself. Under your sink, bathroom and kitchen.
